A mentor is a good idea.

Carl was my mentor for two years and I learned more than I did in four years of college. A major shift in my workplace resulted in me being able to work with Carl more directly. He immediately made me his Padawan and challenged my abilities. He gave me his vision, and set high standards. This was my first large project of significant scale and I was a green project manager. He gave me the tools and experience to succeed, as well as sharing his program management knowledge.
Carl taught me many valuable lessons, including the importance of paying attention to body language. Sometimes, actions speak louder that words. He taught me how to think at a micro level, and then how to present information to executives on a macro-level. The power of a high-five after!
The power of having fun at work is translated into nailing a planning drill. Because he led by example, he showed me how leadership can make a difference in a constantly changing program environment. He was often the first to arrive at work and the last to turn the lights off at night. Carl is sincere in his speaking, thoughtful when analysing situations and a consistent leader.
Thank you Carl.
