Who wouldn’t like to be a Google coder? It’s one the most well-known brands in the world, and nearly 25% of North American network traffic travels through Google’s servers.
How can you get a job at such a prestigious company. How can one become a Google coder? Let’s take a look at what you need in order to land that dream job. A Coding Dojo bootcamp might be the next step if you are interested in becoming a Google coder.
Google’s History: Get to Grips
Google was founded in 1998 by Larry Page, Sergey Brin, and began its existence as a simple search engine. It didn’t stop there. It expanded into software, hardware, and web services, and even became an internet service provider. It grew so large that it now exists under the umbrella company Alphabet to manage all its divisions. They have more than 127,000 employees. There’s a good chance that one of them could be yours.
The United States is the dominant country, but there’s still a chance elsewhere
Software engineering is a major part of Google’s jobs. It’s difficult to estimate a precise number as there are many jobs that overlap with other roles. It appears that they advertised for approximately 1,500 jobs in November, and almost half of these were software engineering-related.
It would appear that software engineering is a large part of the jobs at Google. This is quite a bit more than what we would see at other companies.
This is especially important to remember when looking at the locations of these jobs. While we cannot see the exact number of software development jobs in each city, we can see the total number of positions. Let’s now take a look at the cities with the most open positions.
As you can see, the United States is where most of their open positions are located. It’s not surprising that the most open roles are found in the big cities, such as San Francisco, Dublin, and Singapore.
It’s important to note that there is a healthy spread throughout the rest of the globe. This is quite surprising when compared to other tech conglomerates. If you’re looking to move out of the United States, it’s good to know that Google doesn’t ignore any country.
These numbers are subject to change. These numbers should give you an idea of the cities that are most in demand. Maybe there is a city you have never heard of or an area that is lacking software engineers. Maybe you can fill the gap.
They don’t really advertise remote working
We haven’t heard any news about Google stating that everyone will work remotely until June 30, 2021 due to the pandemic. However, we have seen no news that would indicate whether they are considering making it a regular practice. You can’t search for remote locations on Google’s career page. We assume that this is not something they want to encourage.
What are the Big Trends Google is Looking at?
We found a few common phrases and paragraphs in their job ads. We noticed that many positions had the following:
“We are looking for engineers with fresh ideas in all areas, including information retrieval and distributed computing, large-scale systems design, networking, data storage, security and artificial intelligence, natural language process, UI design, and mobile; the list is growing daily.”
It’s not surprising that these trends are at the forefront of technology. However, they want to have a solid understanding of the core theory. For example, how to keep your programs safe.
It’s a good idea to brush up on the basics before you go to your technical interview.
What skills are required to become a coder at Google?
We noticed some common languages and skills appearing in job descriptions. These three languages were included in every job advertisement:

It’s not surprising that they want people who are familiar with the Android operating system to perform a lot of their tasks.
A degree or ‘equivalent practical experience’
You will need to prove your knowledge in another way if you don’t hold a Bachelor’s Degree. This is the key word here: “Practical.” We are confident that if you can show that you have created several successful Android apps, you will be able to pass their technical interview.
It’s important to understand the basics of programming. This is possible by applying for other programming jobs and proving that you have worked there for a while.
